I have to say, the folks on this panel just made me mad—terribly myopic from within their entitled bubble. I was astounded when they refused to acknowledge that ANYTHING online, over the air, or on TV, including NPR, Frontline, Talking Points Memo, etc, could rival their work. I.e., if newspapers are dead, journalism is dead. Preposterous! They went from "funereal" to damned defensive when a listener (me!) deigned to question their assumptions.

Also ridiculous in asserting that books could make up for the journalist's flat wages. Even bestselling authors, rarely rake it in on their first books; most lose money on books when all all the time and energy exerted are factored in.
