Putting their crossword puzzles into an iPhone-system-software, I think, was not such a bad idea. Heck, $10 a year does not sound bad at all, either.

Thanks for opening this capsule. I watched that conversation from the second row in 1995, sitting with Kovach, who razzed Sulzberger for not wearing a necktie. I remember Frank 3's contrarian crack about diapers, and Pinch's overall reticence to take the plunge (Nando Times preceded nytimes by a couple of years). Ancient history now -- like going back to hear Orville and Wilbur speculate on a future of Pan Am and FedEx; of course they guessed more wrong than right. I was The News & Observer (Frank 3's paper) online editor then. The previous year I had painstakingly posted all the 1994 Nieman new media conference and transcripts and images on the web (a couple of weeks of HTML 1.0 markup by hand). That would be a museum piece today, the discussions far more ancient than 1995's. I wish I could give you a link to it now, but it vanished when somebody here in Raleigh erased a hard disk a few years later. And that's my reason for this post, a plea: If anybody has the 1994 Nieman New Media Conf transcript, especially in html, I'd love to see a copy.
