I like these short interviews. Good information. I don't use a lot of music in pieces, but I do like that sort of 'empty' music that brings something, but doesn't cloud the piece. Thanks for the info.

Thanks Zachary and Amy, especially, for this fascinating and on-point video. As a career journalist and lifelong musician, I definitely feel music is underutilized by journalists. If multimedia offers new ways of engaging viewers -- and it does -- why would we not take full advantage of tools like music? It's unsurprising that those of us who "grew up" in the business as newspaper journalists would shy away from music. It's not in our comfort zone. It could be manipulative, we decide, or -- worse -- deceptive. But I submit that one can be just as manipulative with words and images. Of course, music that is *misused* will harm the final product, just as poorly chosen words can. I love Amy O'Leary's musical choices in her election video. And I especially love what she said about music that is custom-made for a project: "It’s the difference between an off-the-rack suit and a custom tailored suit." Amen, Amy!
