http://www.amacad.org/events/recent.aspx
American Academy of Arts and Science
Saturday, February 28 to Sunday, March 1, 2009 - Click for video and audio.
Symposium - Mountain View, CA
'
The Public Good: The Impact of Information Technology on Society'
Attended as a guest. Final day's panel was on 'The Future of the Book". Panelist John Warnock (Adobe) commented that in 1999 he was a Knight-Ridder board member. He said that he asked the board and management to answer a question: "Are you in the information business or the publishing business?" Knight Ridder got the Web 10 years ago, but the new owners are just now getting it, like the Globe & the Times board and upper management. McClatchy even stated that they were in the "news business" and not in the "Web business". Your comment in 'Roll the dice' was to the point, just a little late; e.g. "Newsrooms have a tencency to crush the entrepreneurial spirit, and we should resis that part of the culture".

No answers from. Buyt like Steve Wozniak, I'll miss the feel of paper as I drink my tea and turn the pages - on a reader, not a newspaper.
