I encourage everyone who possibly can to subscribe. We are fortunate to have the Los Angeles Times, one of the last great newspapers. Go to most cities with just a few exceptions and compare! I don't agree with editorial much of the time but I learn what others are thinking. Newspapers provide local, domestic and international news, they are teaching tools for politics, health, business, home economics, books, entertainment and so much more, all capsulated in your two hands. Where else can you get so much for small change? While we can get isolated in our own interests, newspapers provide bonding with the rest of the world. Keep the Los Angeles Times alive!

...I should have mentioned that I listen to two of the three "radio" stations that I support are online only: In other words, $50/yr of my $75/yr radio investment is online-only.

As well, I support photo.net with $25/yr.

photo.net may be the MOST popular site on the Internet (save Yahoo's home page)...worth a peek to anybody serious about future of media, whether or not they're interested in photography.

I almost never read blogs...I want an editor shaking things down for me, evaluating. At the end of the day, that's why I buy a newspaper. This is crucial to me and yes, to democratic process (it's the commons), but it's being lost.

I do, however, take daily part in special interest chat rooms...very popular, fairly intense, featuring highly well informed Forums: eg photo.net. Unfortunately these are inefficient by comparison to newspapers and they're very narrow.

As well, I visit Yahoo's Tech Ticker daily for economic/market commentary that easily rivals most newspaper analysis. Newspapers, save NYT and WSJ (don't know about LA Times) do a bad job there because they mostly rely on AP.

Online presences like these, I think, will be more the future than pure, static, online news.

I support two of them with annual $25 contributions. As well, I support three public radio stations with $25ea: two of them NPR : KUNM in Albuquerque (my home town) and WBGO (jazz/NPR in New Jersey) and one non-NPR, simply "community" (wwoz ...New Orleans themed music)

I would prefer an online "broadcaster" (voices along with text, per Tech Ticker) with the significance of NYT to NPR, but I don't read NYT/WSG online because I don't enjoy reading a monitor if it's not interactive.
