In the various interviews that Bezos gave in the build up to the launch he describes the Kindle as a technology that is optimized for long form reading.

It&#039;s exactly the unwavering focus on optimizing it for that function that will lead to it&#039;s success among the niche market of readers.  The buzz about it&#039;s lack of interactivity v the iPhone is actually the feature, not the bug.</description>
