One reason this stuff is all so “boring” and “confusing”, is because many people want it to be regarded as such. With a grasp of formal game theory, you can see that to the extent that finance is a “zero-sum game”, the there’s a powerful motivation to obscure the truth and promote mis-information. This is NOT a conspiracy of elites against the proletariat; it’s just an emergent behavior of a system in which having better information is essential to success. No one has perfect information, and I can improve my margin by degrading your information.

Dear Adam,
I hope you can answer me. I listened to your interview regarding Obama’s single-regulating of banks. The intereviw took place on All Things Considered, May 28,2009. You said on that piece that “By law every reporter has to call it alphabet soup….” There were two other “by law” phrases. Could you elaborate on the “by law” faction. And tell me about it. Is that a law directed by the Federal government? Thank you
