One way to think about breaking news going forward is to have “weathermen” for things like the financial meltdown or the war in Afghanistan or the effects of climate change.

From time to time a snapshot of the weather could be published in print. With the appropriate “weather maps”. It would give citizens the information and context to get a better idea of whether it’s going to just rain or turn into a hurricane.

We decided on a “hybrid” entry because we were simultaneously publishing all of our reporting immediately online while putting together the print report on tight deadline.
