Interesting. I just don't know that advertising is really going to be the business model for the future of journalism. It really just doesn't seem that advertising has the same influence online that it did in print. But still a good move in the search for the new online business model for the future of journalism. There are some great interviews with top journalists about the future of journalism at http://www.ourblook.com/component/option,com_sectionex/Itemid,200076/id,8/view,category/#catid69 which I have found useful on these subjects.

Michael Andersen,

The selective #hashtag is a good idea. We're currently testing if a filter to "exclude" tweets is all that is needed. Twitter feeds are currently filtered for the "@" symbol so @Replies don't flow into Real-Time Ads. But a client could also set up ";)" as a filter and then use to exclude their non-marketing tweets. In my analysis of businesses that twitter, non-marketing tweets were rare. So implementing a unique hashtag seemed like adding a task. Of course, our beta testers will let us know what is best!

Since Twitter is basically an RSS feed that's been optimized for usability, it seems as if advertisers could easily be trained to add a hashtag (#mpads or something) to any Twitter post that they want reproduced on MinnPost.

Very cool: Much better branding and targeting than AdSense. Seems like the big question here, as Kramer notes, will be cost of sales -- i.e., the technological hand-holding.
