DIY atomization seems like a great concept to me, Zach. One point: I think it's inevitably difficult to identify the best parts of one's own reporting. And of course the 10 quotes that appeal most to Gawker readers won't appeal to Redstate readers, while the Boston Globe is attempting to serve both audiences at once.

Well, Charles, I am hardly an academic, but you have to admit that something kept Seamus and the dog carrier attached to the roof of Mitt's station wagon, no? And I do still plan to read the Vanity Fair profile in full, but all I said was that I'm "reliably informed" it exists. —Zach

I find it interesting that an academic with the apparent task of studying journalism failed to read the original article upon which your post was based. Seamus was not tied to the roof of a station wagon; he rode in a dog carrier attached to the roof. The article also mentions no other examples of Seamus being "made to suffer other indignities during a vacation...". You might try investigating your sources as other scholars, and occasionally some journalists do. In fact, you should be embarrassed to admit that you have not read the Vanity Fair article about Pallin and then suggest that you are reliably informed because you've read second hand about it in blogs.
