Joanne,

You're very welcome.

Amy,

You raise a very good point. We need women as owners and operators (and power-position editors). Blogging alone won't solve the problem of giving women the voice they lack in the mainstream media. However, I do think MSM will lose a lot of women readers to the blogosphere if they don't change their thinking, their actions, their attitudes.

I totally agree that what pundit mom has been doing is great--melding the personal and political is great-- and I've been following her for a long time.

I also agree that the traditional media has totally let women down

Putting anything about women in the "life or features section". The national Can paper put Clinton's pulling out of the race in the Life section!

Also, newspapers often don't address how a specific issue will affect women.

As you say, I've worked at women's mags and regular mags and have seen how any story to do with women if voted down in co-ed settings.

I disagree that blogs are the answer, for their inability to bring any new info or new perspective or journalistic cred to an issue.

And I hope that women can remake the news into what we/they want...I'm trying in my site--where I collect editorials from many different women on news of the day--sometimes first person citizen j- sometimes expert opinion.

And I also hope that women can become owners and operators of new news vehicles.

Gina, Thanks so much for writing about this topic that should be getting more coverage and thank you so much for your kind words about my blog!

I try hard to "add value" as they say -- not to regurgitate what's being said elsewhere or just offering links to sites. As you can probably tell from some of the comments at PunditMom, people with opposing views aren't afraid to chime in, and I'm glad they feel they can. If we can all have a lively but respectful conversation, maybe we can prove to the "main stream" media that the voices of women, and mothers in particular, are worthy of their column space!
