In this post, you perpetuate negative, overblown stereotypes about Rochester in a way that is both narrow-minded and offensive for many lifelong residents who love their city and surrounding region. You quote a Toronto columnist without even attempting to suggest that his or her view is skewed. Rochester is NOT defined solely by blight. Rochester has the same challenges of every other older industrial city in the Northeast, but Rochester is defined just as much by its spirit, its tenacity, its reasonable cost of living, friendly people, wonderful independent stores and restaurants, proximity to a beautiful lake, and countless other virtues. It is unfair and unprofessional to neglect the positives, even if your pessimistic perspective serves the purpose of this post. Wegmans is one tourist attraction, and for good reason--it's the Disney World of grocery stores, and has won scores of awards. But we are the proud home to the Eastman House, the Susan B. Anthony House, the International Jazz Fest, the Corn Hill Arts Fest, the Lilac Fest, and many, many more--and that's just the city itself. Rochester has truly an astonishing level of important history, arts and culture for a city of its size. Your sweeping, slanted generalizations are of service to nobody.

Interesting, but are the 1000 people who pick up the paper during the game going to keep picking it up when there's no game?
