Good Lord, NYT—pay more attention to improving the paper and less to unmasking the person/people behind one critical blog. Reall, it's undignified!

"Of course, you can’t just make things on the Internet disappear."

Or can you? Mashable reported yesterday that Yoko Ono told the UK's Sky News that Apple would make the Beatle's catalog available on iTunes today. But the Sky News story disappeared.

"Unfortunately, shortly after the leak appeared, Sky News was reportedly told to cut the story and now even the Google Cache of the original has gone missing. Conspiracy theorists (and Beatles fans) are out there having a field day with this one."

http://mashable.com/2009/09/08/beatles-itunes/

We'll know if the original report was right or wrong in a few hours. But the situation raises other questions about the permanence of news on the Internet.

If a story turns out to be false, should it be removed or just corrected? If this story can disappear, what about others? And how does Google fit into this?`
