Great combination of theories.

One of the fundamental reasons to advocate for the formalized collaboration between institutions and networks is to ensure the credibility/reliability of information as well as a means to pool resources for costly FOIA battles.
The recent announcement of the Polk award to an anonymous video uploader covering the killing of an Iranian protester highlights the point that citizen journalism is fundamental to access of information but third parties must be on hand to verify what we're seeing.

One question might be how to formalize and streamline the collaboration between the first and second network types outlined by van Slyke and Clarke and accredited media hubs.

What I find particularly compelling about this model is the idea of networks nested within one another (the layered approach).

One of the challenges I hope you address in the follow-up is figuring out what organizing principles are put in place so that a) it's financially sustainable and b) the networks, presumably self-serving, are protected from entropy.
