Very interesting outreach.

Any interest in doing some comparative research on Minneapolis?

Lots of fodder:
http://e-democracy.org/mpls
And more:

Say, did you see any qualitative difference between sites the use/promote real names versus others?

I think a big distinction here can be highlighted by the difference between reporting and conversations. Old media is still speaking in the language of "muckraking" and finding the truth. For traditional media, a big success is to uncover something and report on it. That's valuable, but I don't believe it is what people crave.

People want a greater sense of connectedness...they want to know what is going on, not what a reporter thinks is going on. Authority-driven media and public officials chafe at the "inaccuracy" and unaccountability of blogs, but our media allows people to say what they think and engage in a conversation instead of just writing letters to the editor or getting the ear of a reporter.

On my website, we've been fairly successful at diving into the language of local zoning ordinances and publishing digestible summaries in addition to the traditional political narratives.

I've found that while the policy articles don't get as many comments, the page views often outpace the day-to-day narratives. When the summaries are written well, they have a pretty good shelf life, and I can link to them within the context of a political debate. Plus, it gives me (and hopefully readers) a better grasp on the issues at hand.
