Politico works in traditional spaces and uses standard approaches. I don't see its success as easily translating but it does speak to the capabilities of its management. But local? It's different. The rules and motivations of local bloggers don't map to anything.

There's a lot of energy in DC's blogging community, and for organizations, like TDB apparently, to believe they can harness some of it all I can say is good luck to that.

But money can accomplish a lot and an ad network that actually provides a fair return for the effort might may well help some bloggers. But no system helps or wants to help everyone. For many people, corporate is corporate and many local bloggers are indifferent to Leviathans.

Jim Brady is a smart guy and it appears he has put together an equally strong team. This could be an actual game changer in terms of local media. Wonder how other locals will respond.

As promised, I have nearly finished hiring the team. We have six people (including me) in place, with one to go. http://stevebuttry.wordpress.com/2010/04/16/loryn-wilson-joins-us-as-a-community-host/

And the name should be coming soon.
