In my opinion, mèmes knew their summit year 2007. They fell as "social networks" rised. I find it disgusting to see brands or commercials using old references nowaday. Viral doesn't have the same taste as it used to

The huckster with a formula for making your brand “go viral” is the Brooklyn Bridge salesman of our time, but ROFLcon presenter Jonah Peretti isn’t your average social media “strategist.” :) http://www.silversnowballing.com

 This particular
piece really did switch the light on for me as far as this specific subject
goes. But at this time there is one factor tax relief I am not really too comfortable
with and whilst I try to reconcile that with the core theme of your position,
allow me see exactly what the rest of the visitors have to say.Very well
 done.

Better understanding how viral media works might also shed some interesting light on what exactly viral media is doing to the way we process information, news etc, and how its effecting our appetites for information, and the quality of the web food we're eating.

Bill Wasik writes about this: http://www.niemanlab.org/2009/07/how-viral-culture-is-changing-how-we-learn-share-create-and-interact/

Also, for what it's worth, I co=produced a documentary about ROFLCon and memeculture that might be of interest, especially the latter part, about how internet culture can ruin someone's life:

If virality were formulaic or predictable, I'm almost certain that it would not be viral. Viral campaigns and memes gather momentum because they are so different and unpredictable. One way I like to start is to chuck all the predictable tools like storyboards, scripts, actors, and work more on raw ideas. My second suggestion is more beer.

We need to seriously consider the possibility that virality is to a large degree unpredictable. Consider the paper Experimental Study of Inequality and Unpredictability in an Artificial Cultural Market (Science, 2006)

"Hit songs, books, and movies are many times more successful than average, suggesting that ‘the best’ alternatives are qualitatively different from ‘the rest’; yet experts routinely fail to predict which products will succeed. We investigated this paradox experimentally, by creating an artificial ‘music market’ in which 14,341 participants downloaded previously unknown songs either with or without knowledge of previous participants’ choices. Increasing the strength of social influence increased both inequality and unpredictability of success. Success was also only partly determined by quality: The best songs rarely did poorly, and the worst rarely did well, but any other result was possible."
