Thanks Laura! We are indeed excited about the Knight News Challenge opportunity. We're expanding FPF slowly to more Vermont towns now and we look forward to serving communities beyond our state in 2011. Cheers.

We have had a very powerful example of this going on in Oakland, California's Glenview neighborhood for years now. It has become so powerful, popular, and effective that we've actually affected our crime level here. The police monitor the discussions now and have even provided a link to us for their running database/crime report on the area.

An example of the power of the Glenfriends group is that one day when someone had broken into a neighbor's home, neighbors were on the board immediately posting when they saw/where they saw someone "suspicious" with descriptions, et al. The police were able to apprehend and find the suspect in great part because of the networking that went on here.

Glad to see more attention being paid to this via the usability community.
