New West is a for-profit online media company based in Missoula, Mont. It was founded in 2005 by Jonathan Weber.

New West covers six states in the Rocky Mountains: Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. It has local sites in Missoula, as well as Bozeman, Montana, and Boise, Idaho.

The company has a full-time staff of at least a half-dozen, along with local editors and writers on contract. New West relies primarily on online advertising for revenue, though it also runs conferences and events and a custom-publishing business.

In January 2010, Weber left New West to become editor in chief of the nonprofit Bay Citizen. Laura Ingham is now the publisher and CEO.
