ABC News is a television network news organization. It is a division of ABC, a network owned by the Walt Disney Company.

ABC News’ programs include its evening newscast World News, late-night news program Nightline, morning show Good Morning America and Sunday morning talk show This Week.

World News and Good Morning America are typically the second-most-watched American news programs in their genre, behind NBC. ABC News also had theĀ 10th-most popular U.S. news site as of April 2011.

ABC News hosted a web-only version of World News from 2006 through January 2010 and continues to produce a political webcast. The network’s webcasts have gone through several incarnations over those four years. The network also began producing podcasts in 2005.

ABC News has a major content-sharing partnership with Yahoo, in which the two organizations combine their web traffic and much of their online content. The arrangement, announced in October 2011, calls for ABC News to produces web video series for Yahoo and for Yahoo to produce Good Morning America‘s web content. A year later, the two sites together were reaching the largest web audience in America, and their partnership accounted for nearly one-half of the general news videos watched online.

In February 2010, ABC News announced it would be cutting as much as a quarter of its 1,400-person staff. The cuts came with plans to more closely connect broadcast and the web, dramatically expand the use of digital journalists and train employees on new technology. The network had previously been using the “one-person-crew” model with its foreign correspondents and planned to expand it throughout the organization.

ABC was the first television network to offer an iPad app, allowing users to watch its shows free in April 2010. The app met initial success. ABC News launched its own iPad app in July 2010. It was also the first major TV news outlet to launch a channel for Apple TV, in 2014.

In March 2010, an ABC News executive was reported saying the network is considering a plan to charge for news online that would be unveiled in summer 2010. However, no further details of such a plan have been revealed.

ABC News began partnering with the St. Petersburg Times’ PolitiFact in April 2010 to fact-check the statements of guests on its Sunday talk show, This Week.

The gender gap persists at many top news outlets in the U.S., and it’s reflected in how stories are reported — Far more men than women are reporting the news, at least at some of the most prominent news organizations in the United States.
