The press is, at its best, the strong and steady hand at keeping the public informed. No surprise, it is the twin Watergate-tested news institutions of The New York Times and The Washington Post that continue to lead that informing.
Three-quarters of Americans surveyed say social networks should show the same set of news topics to all users, ignoring their stated interests or browsing history. (Someone should tell them about newspapers!)
Not that they can remember the source five minutes later, anyway.
Plus: Facebook expands its fact-checking program; for one thing, it now covers photos and video.
But they’re evenly split on whether or not the news selection algorithms on sites like Facebook and Twitter should be regulated.
