Inside.com recently raised $2.6 million from SeedInvest, Jason Calacanis, and “hundreds of our readers” to keep the growth going (but not relying on reader revenue).
Closing in on a year, the company founded by serial entrepreneur and investor Jason Calacanis now has around 300,000 subscribers across 30 newsletters, and average open rates just above 40 percent.
Circa needs a new round of funding, deals with partners, or a sale to grow into its CEO’s vision. Will it be able to sell investors on its unique approach to mobile, or will they consider its tech edge underwhelming?
Maybe it’s not quite as big a change as the rise of the web — but the rise of the smartphone deserves to be in the conversation. And traditional news companies are falling behind.
