“The amount of ire and vitriol that has been thrown my way over the past four or five months is a very clear indication that [publishers are] absolutely terrified…If they want my advice on how to do it legally, they can pay me for it.”
But it’s a real and growing factor on desktop browsers, which has gotten many news organizations thinking about how to respond to the adblocking threat. Here are some of the strategies they’re trying.
“Free content isn’t free; it’s subsidized by advertisers, who want to get their messages in front of users. But increasingly, users say, they’re the ones paying for the ads: with their privacy, their patience, and their mobile bandwidth.”
