The study looked at sports articles in a German newspaper and found that the byline’s gender didn’t have a significant effect on readers’ perception of the writer’s expertise.
“Our analysis shows men’s sports are the appetizer, the main course and the dessert, and if there’s any mention of women’s sports it comes across as begrudging ‘eat your vegetables’ without the kind of bells and whistles and excitement with which they describe men’s sports and athletes.”
These new platforms are optimized for realtime news on phones, but there are lots of questions for news organizations — from what content to share to how to measure their effectiveness.
Sports reporters often lead their newsrooms in activity on social media. That doesn’t mean they have to like it.
