“On July 15th, Russia’s justice ministry declared Proekt an “undesirable organization.” In Russia, any coöperation with an outfit rendered “undesirable” is a felony punishable by several years in prison. Proekt was forced to close immediately. The site’s online archive would have to be deleted, too, given that anyone citing or linking to the work of an undesirable organization is committing a crime.”
